New Delhi: Indian Premier League franchise Deccan Chargers is in danger of losing its place in the cash-rich league's set-up, throwing up the possibility of an eight-team IPL6 in 2013, sources told CNN-IBN on Monday.
Deccan, the 2009 IPL champions, might lose their franchise as the owners are unable to sort out financial issues after they mortgaged the team to banks to raise funds without BCCI's consent, added sources. It has also been learnt that the Indian board is seeking a new buyer for the franchise but hasn’t ruled out the possibility of an eight-team IPL 6 in 2013 if no buyer is found.
Deccan won the 2009 title in a dramatic turnaround after they finished last in the league's inaugural season the previous year.
