Lord’s Test, England vs South Africa: English bowlers dictate terms on Day 1

London: England were in a commanding position at the end of the first day's play against South Africa at the 3rd and final Test.

Update 6: STUMPS: South Africa 262/7 [Steyn 21*(32), Philander 46* (64)]

So bad light has stopped the play a few overs ahead of the scheduled time. South Africa have managed to make a good comeback as at one stage they were reeling at 105/5. Philander has certainly played a very patient innings and the Proteas would want him to continue his good show on Day 2 as well.

They Day belonged to English bowlers, Finn and Anderson in particular who forced the South Africans on the back seat with some excellent seam bowling. Both the bowlers picked three wickets each.

Update 5: 81overs: South Africa 235/7 [Steyn 0*(3), Philander 41 (53)]

James Anderson finally gets the much-needed breakthrough for his side. JP Duminy chased a ball that was wide and ended up nicking it to Prior. A fine innings from Duminy (61) comes to an end. He added 72 runs with Philander for the seventh wicket.

Update 4: 65 overs: South Africa / [Duminy 40*(98), Philander 21 (20)]

Graeme Swann dismissed Jacques Rudolph (42) after he added 58 runs along with JP Duminy. Since then Duminy and Philander have added 26 runs without the loss of a wicket.

Update 3: 40 overs: South Africa 105/5 [Duminy 0*(5), Rudolph 21 (66)]
Jacques Rudolph and AB de Villiers stitched together a good partnership 51 runs post lunch but James Anderson provided England with a timely breakthrough in the form of de Villiers 27(47). Anderson pitched the ball up and got it to move away. de Villiers was induced into the drive and got a thick edge that flew low and to the left of Cook at third slip.

Update 2: First session: South Africa 65/4 [Rudolph 7* (15) and de Villiers 5*(7)]
Steven Finn got the wickets Hashim Amla (13) and Petersen (22) in the same over to peg back South Africa. But the session’s highlight was Jacques Kallis 3 (9) begin given out by third umpire Rod Tucker. England went for a review as they thought this is another catch down the leg side. The right hand was off the bat as it touched the glove. Hotspot did not detect anything but video replays showed that it kissed the glove.The replays showed were not conclusive. It was not clear if the glove was off the bat as it kissed it.

Update 1: 10 overs: South Africa 26/1 [Petersen 12* (28), Amla – 0* (3) ] . 
After a rather cautious start captain Graeme Smith departed for 14 as James Anderson scalped the wicket. Caught by Prior. Anderson`s kept the ball very full from round the wicket and Smith tried to jam it out on the offside but only managed to get an outside edge through to Prior.
