SLPL: Nagenahira Nagas defeated Ruhuna on D/L method

Nagenahira Nagas defeated Ruhuna Royals by five runs on Duckworth/Lewis method in the rain-shortened opening match of the foundational edition of Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Saturday.
In reply of Ruhuna’s 134 all out, Nagenahira were 77-2 in 12 overs and were five runs on par the asking rate when rain stopped proceedings.
In purist of a modest chase Nagenahira lost opener Ahmed Shehzad in the second over. The Pakistan-import batsman was trapped leg-before off paceman Tharanga Lakshitha for duck.
Travis Birt (33 not out) and Udara Jayasundera (25) stitched up 53 runs for the second wicket to put Nagenahira chase on track before latter perished to pacer Lasith Malinga.
Earlier, opting to bat, Ruhuna failed to get momentum after early blows lost wickets at regular intervals. Barring Lahiru Thirimanne (34) none of the their batsmen were able to reach 20-mark.
Paceman Shaminda Eranga and off-spinner Ajantha Mendis claimed three wickets apiece.
The seven-team province-based tournament will consist of 24 games including two semifinals and a final. The teams are allowed six overseas players in their squad and four in their playing XI.
The 20-day tournament will be broadcasted live in 80 countries. Geo Super has secured the live broadcasting rights of the event for its viewers in Pakistan.
